Wound Management at Health First Pharmacy

Community pharmacies like Health First Pharmacy have traditionally been trusted centers for managing minor wounds from accidents, sports injuries, and other incidents.

Role of Community Pharmacistsin Wound Care

The crucial role of community pharmacists in wound care stems from their extensive healthcare training and hands-on experience in treating wounds such as cuts, grazes, and burns.

When to SeekProfessional Help

While it’s crucial to seek immediate medical attention for serious wounds, even minor injuries can benefit from professional care. It’s often more beneficial to consult a healthcare professional like a pharmacist instead of self-treating with bandages sourced from non-health suppliers.

Wound Care Services atHealth First Pharmacy

Our pharmacy offers in-house wound care services. If you come in with a wound, our pharmacist will first examine the wound and ask how it occurred. The wound will then be cleaned to remove any potential foreign objects, like dirt, glass, or stones. If there is any doubt about the wound being completely clean, we may refer you to a doctor or hospital emergency department.

After ensuring the wound is clean, the pharmacist will work to stop any bleeding and then dress the wound.

Ongoing WoundCare

Wound management doesn’t end with a single visit. We’ll provide advice on how to clean and re-dress the wound, as well as what signs of infection to look out for and when to seek further medical advice.

Our team can also provide guidance on pain relief, the importance of good nutrition, and skin care for optimal wound healing.

Special Considerations forDiabetic Patients

If you’re diabetic, it’s essential to give any wounds extra care. Please inform our pharmacist immediately if you have diabetes so we can adjust your care accordingly.
